Hand Controls and Other Driving Equipment

We provide evaluation and training in the use of adaptive driving equipment for individuals who require equipment to access primary and secondary vehicle controls.

Typical equipment includes hand controls, left foot accelerator pedal, and steering devices. The client must be able to transfer into our sedan (with or without assistance) for us to complete evaluation and training. A valid license or learners permit is needed before any in-vehicle training can be completed. If the client does not have a valid license or permit we can work with them to obtain a Rehabilitation Permit. This allows the driver to complete training only with the Driver Rehabilitation Specialist. Please contact us for more information if you will require a Rehabilitation Permit.

Number of Sessions

Our adaptive equipment evaluation and training will require multiple sessions. A prescription for the equipment will be given once safe use of the equipment is demonstrated in our vehicle. This generally entails the evaluation session, 2-4 training sessions, and a final fitting session.

Final Fitting

The final training session will be completed in the client's vehicle, once the adaptive equipment has been installed. This final training session is essential to completing the program.

Please call us to discuss rates and potential funding sources. Payment for each session is due at the time of service.
